Old Trafford Football Ground

Although you may find it hard to come by a ticket to see Manchester United play a home fixture, its doors are kept open to the general public every day for a unique behind the scenes tour both on and off the pitch. The tour begins in the trophy room before taking to the stands, the press area, the dugouts and the player's tunnel, culminating in walking down the very tunnel many of the world's greatest footballers have trodden through the decades.

The Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry is set within five antique-style buildings, which originate back to 1830 on the site of the first railway station in the world. The museum's many exhibits include artifacts celebrating Manchester illustrious history in the railway industry, aviation, textiles, plus a whole room containing various aircraft detailing the city's involvement with aviation and war.

Imperial War Museum North

The unusual, yet fantastic architecture of this impressive building is worth the visit alone. Situated just a short distance from Old Trafford, the Imperial War Museum focuses on the people of the North of England who fought in the two World Wars. On display are various artifacts; from uniforms to logbooks and tanks to airplanes, the museum provides a fascinating incite to the role the North of England played during the war years.

The Lowry

L.S Lowry's grim industrial city landscapes truly captured the imagination of the people of North of England with his depictions of the bleak factories, plumes of smoke and matchstick people stuck in bleak urban turmoil. His paintings are now collected together in this magnificent gallery in the restored docklands area of Manchester.

Manchester Cathedral

Manchester's cathedral started life as a medieval parish in the 13th century before becoming a cathedral in 1847. The cathedral boasts the widest nave in Britain - formed by six bays. The choir stall is also unique - thanks to its unusual 16th century misericord seats and medieval carvings.
