London Top Tips

- If using public transport, buy day travelcards which will entitle you to unlimited travel on buses, trains, the Underground, trams and the Docklands Light Railway.
- If staying more than three days, purchase an Oyster Card. This electronic travel card offers up to 50% off single journeys and only costs £3.
- Avoid the crowds. By midday, Oxford Street and the immediate area become extremely crowded. To avoid the shopping crowds; start early!
- Mobile phone theft, pickpocketing and petty crime are rife in London, especially at night. Keep your belongings safe at all times.
- The London Eye is a must-do when visiting London. There is always a large queue to get on the wheel, so book tickets in advance that will entitle you to ‘express boarding'.
London Prices
People commonly associate London with expense, which is not strictly true. Many decent hostels offer beds for the night for as little as £10. Mid-range chain hotels are also reasonably priced, with a double room commonly costing between £50-£80 a night.
Eating in London can be as cheap or expensive as you desire. A decent meal will commonly cost around £20 each. Chinatown is a good place to go for cheap and tasty food especially during the day.
High-end hotels such as The Dorchester however, are a different prospect. Such hotels regularly offer guests rooms at offer rates, starting at around £250, rising to as much as £3000 for a suite!
Transport in London is fairly priced. Unlimited day travel cards will cost around £6 a day, whereas a journey via black taxi in London will cost a minimum of £4.00 before you have even begun your journey!
