My favourite drive is: The A686 from Penrith in Cumbria to Haydon Bridge in Northumberland. It is a mix of open sweeping roads with great views, testing hairpins & a beautiful tree lined valley with the sun glinting through the trees. And, as importantly, virtually no traffic.
