Travelling to and around Knock/County Mayo
By Plane
The West Airport Knock (www.irelandwestairport.com) is arguably Ireland's most burgeoning, with a number of flights to the UK being added each year, serving as the gateway to the west, north-west and midland areas of Ireland. The nearest settlements to the airport are Charlestown around three miles away and the small town of Knock itself. Car Hire is essential to get most places and tour County Mayo, with public transport around the county rather limited. However, Bus Eireann (www.buseireann.ie) run regular services to Charlestown (which correspond with each arrival/departure) and there is also a taxi rank on hand to transport visitors from the terminal building.

Food and drink prices are much the same as they are anywhere else in Ireland (slightly more expensive than the UK). A pint of beer will cost you around €5-€6, likewise a glass of wine. Almost every town in Mayo is awash with pubs and restaurants who predominantly serve decent home-cooked, traditional food. Expect to pay €10-15 at most places for a decent sit-down meal.
Accommodation options are various around County Mayo depending on your taste and requirements. There are many three and four star hotels in each of Mayo's main towns such as Westport, Foxford and Ballina and all represent fantastic value for money. Take for instance the Westport Hotel Leisure Spa, which costs as little as €55 per night.
