Excursions From Dublin

The Boyne Valley
This incredibly scenic drive brings out the true brilliance of the Irish countryside, taking you through Tara, Newgrange and Monasterboice and the counties of Meath and Louth. Taking the N3, stop off at the Hill of Tara – one of Ireland’s premier landmarks, which is marked by an ancient mystical site which dates back to Ireland’s beginnings in 200BC.
The tomb at Newgrange is also spectacular – decorated in ancient, mysterious artwork. The drive to the Boyne Valley culminates in the 10th century ruins of Monasterboice, where you can climb to the top of the Round Tower and gaze across the atmospheric Irish countryside as far as the Mourne Mountains.

The Wicklow Hills
Through bogs, marshes, valleys and spectacular mountain gaps – the route to the Wicklow Hills is a must for anyone wanting to soak up the true spirit of rural Ireland. The Calary Bog gives way to inimitable views of Great Sugar Loaf Mountain as you approach the Roundwood Resevoir. Stop at Glendalough with its 6th century tower and German War Cemetery, embarking along ‘Military Road’ – the route Irish rebels used during the 1798 rebellion. The route comes to a close as you approach the picture-perfect Glenmacnass Waterfall, surrounded by the mountains lakes of the Wicklow Hills – the very essence of scenic Ireland.
