Dating back to 1722, Cork’s cathedral sits proudly on top of a hill overlooking the city. Visitors are able to climb the narrow stone steps to the top of the thick steeple walls that offer panoramic views of the city. Visitors are also permitted to play the church’s bells out loud, which gives an extra incentive to visit the cathedral, especially if travelling with children. 
Although a six-mile drive outside the city centre, Blarney Castle is one of Ireland’s premier tourist attractions, mainly because of the famous Blarney Stone, which visitors in the area flock to in order to kiss to bring them good luck. The medieval castle is worth the visit in its own right thanks to its impressive high-walled medieval structure, battlements and number of shops selling local souvenirs and crafts.
