Excursions From Malaga
From Malaga you have the whole of Andalucia and the Costa del Sol at your doorstep when hiring a car. Should you be looking for nightlife, head to Torremolinos (although the town is often overcrowded during summer months due to the amount of package holidays here) or for a quieter experience outside Torremolinos head to La Carihuela.
If you are travelling west along the Costa del Sol, you will quickly notice many luxurious settlements and cities. Fuengirola and Los Boliches are simply delightful. Both have a number of upmarket restaurants, apartments and hotels. Be sure to visit Sohail Castle, which overlooks Fuengirola and gives amazing views of the surrounding coastline. Perhaps most famous of the luxury ports of call on the Costa del Sol is Marbella. Marbella is a haven for shoppers, with many designer boutiques nestled amongst the beautiful old town, all set against a formidable harbour containing a beautiful promenade along the coast and a number of expensive yachts belonging to some of Europe's richest people.
Events in or around Malaga
Feast of St. John: In mid June, this large-scale religious festival is one of the calendar highlights of the year in Malaga. On hand are a variety of street performers, a large bonfire and a large fireworks display to cap off the day.
Movies of Summer: During the last week in June ‘Nights of the Movies' festival previews screenings of brand new summer films at various locations around the city, with a number taking place outdoors.
Feria de Malaga: Taking place in mid-August, this is arguably the city's biggest annual event where the whole of Malaga comes out to celebrate - many in fancy dress. This authentic Spanish festival sees Flamenco dancers, street performers and musicians perform late into the night.
Nuestra Senora de la Victoria Pilgrimage: Also in mid-August, pilgrims travel from Marbella to Malaga on horseback and via horse and carriage to celebrate their Patron Saint; Nuestra Senora de la Victoria.
