Resort description
Les Deux Alpes is one of France's oldest ski resorts, boasting a good snow record due to the altitude of its slopes. Ski slopes run down both sides of the resort, offering a good mix of runs to cater for all abilities. And, to ensure the slopes stay in tip top condition all season long, the resort has also invested in 211 snow cannons.
This is a "Famille Plus" resort – a label designed to recognise resorts that have gone the extra mile to providing family-friendly facilities and activities. There are new childcare facilities in the heart of the resort, catering for children aged 6 months to 12 years and many of the ski schools have snow gardens for youngsters to take their first steps in the snow.
This is a good resort for beginners with gentle nursery slopes, serviced by free beginner lifts. With a little practice (and maybe some help from a ski instructor) you should be able to progress quickly onto some of the easy blue runs. There is a choice of ski schools, many with English language instructors and offering special sessions for children.
Intermediates meanwhile are in their element here, with spectacular glacier skiing and runs which lead back down into the village. There are 14 black runs including the challenging Super Diable as well as plenty of opportunities to enjoy some off-piste skiing (although a local guide is advised to explore La Grave).
Or take the funicular up to La Meije glacier for breathtaking views and guaranteed skiing.
Snowboarders are equally well catered for with one of Europe’s best boardparks and again plenty of off-piste opportunities.
There are lift pass discounts for children and seniors (65+ years). All passes include free access to the ice rink and there are incentives to buy longer passes for the duration of your holiday (6 or more days qualify for free access to the swimming pool and discounted activities). The passes to the lower slopes are free to the under 5s and over 72 years. There are also family and pedestrian passes available. Entry to the snow park is free with a valid lift pass.
The resort is lively with a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. Après-ski is an important part of your holiday then you’ve come to the right place – as well as the many restaurants, there are plenty of pubs, bars and nightclubs open until the early hours should you so choose.
Away from the slopes there is plenty to entertain all ages including an outdoor swimming pool, cinema, ice rink, bowling, climbing wall and 2 sports centres. To help you relax away from the slopes, there are also plenty of spas in the vicinity
