Good for: Intermediate and advanced skiers; snowboarders; families; seniors; quieter picturesque resort. There are some nice gentle nursery slopes for beginners and a ski school with expert tuition to help you progress onto some of the higher slopes.

Resort description
Ernest Hemmingway once described Galtur as "an Alpine Ideal" as he sat, 5000 feet above sea level, looking out over the incredible Silvetta Region.

Words cannot describe however, just how picturesque the village of Galtur truly is. The 600 year old Tyrolean style buildings and old pilgrimage church make for a picture-perfect setting for those ready to immerse themselves in the beauty of the area and hit the slopes.

Although the skiing terrain at Galtur is somewhat modest in comparison to some of the 'super-resorts' around Europe, there are still a number of slopes to cater for all needs and abilities. Beginners will enjoy the gentle nursery slopes and there is a good ski school to help you progress with special programmes for children and young skiers. There are also dedicated areas for children ("Zwergerlwelt" and "Abenteuerland") to help them build their confidence and improve their technique.

Galtur Village

Intermediates meanwhile are well catered for with a good choice of blue and red runs. For more variety, head to nearby Ischgl.

Advanced skiers have a number of black routes to choose from and some great off-piste skiing. And snowboarders will be in their element – ever since the first snowboarding World Cup was held here in 1993, the facilities just keep getting better and better.

With regard to lift passes there are reductions for children and teenagers (up to 19 years), families and seniors (60+ years). Group discounts can be negotiated privately with the Galtür cable car company

Relax in GalturThis is a small, charming and fairly quiet resort. But what it may lack in ski runs, it makes up for in undeniable charm thanks to the beautiful accommodation quarters that have kept in keeping with the village’s ornate fashion. The handful of fine, traditional Austrian restaurants also help to make this the perfect resort for those looking for a relaxing and tasteful ski getaway, without the aggravation of overcrowding that is so fervent in larger resorts. There are a few good bars to choose from but après-ski is fairly low key – for more variety head for nearby Ischgl.

There are plenty of non-ski activities in the locality including ice-skating, snowshoe trails, sleigh rides, paragliding and bowling. There is also a sports centre with tennis/squash facilities and an indoor swimming pool which is popular with families. Or find time to visit the Galtür Alpinarium where you will find informative exhibitions, an indoor climbing wall, a café with sun terrace and an Internet lounge.
