| Welcome |
 |
Welcome to your October newsletter. Autumn has well and truly arrived and I keep finding myself looking longingly at holiday brochures whilst turning the central heating up again. Will you be searching out the sun this winter? Or perhaps a ski holiday is more up your street? Well, wherever your travels take you, if you book your next car hire with us before the 31st October you could WIN a portable DVD player - perfect for keeping your passengers quiet during any long car journey!
Whilst we may moan about the blustery autumnal weather, there is certainly plenty going on to entertain us this October, from the spooky goings-on at Halloween to the Cork Jazz Festival and the Munich Oktoberfest. There are plenty of local events if you need to keep the kids occupied this half term and to give you some idea of what’s going on when, cast your eyes over our Worldwide events calendar. If you are still searching for inspiration on where to go next, take a look at our travel feature on Ireland or, if you fancy rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, why not check out some European celebrity haunts.

| Destination Spotlight - County Cork, Ireland |
 |
Ireland is a popular destination year round for both business and leisure travellers but it is certainly in the spotlight this autumn. Following the success of the 2006 Ryder Cup comes the 50th International Cork Film Festival and the annual Guinness Jazz Festival. It seems appropriate, therefore, to take a closer look at the Emerald Isle this month and appreciate the warm hospitality and unique charms of County Cork.
County Cork is the largest of the Irish counties with varied scenery and a wealth of history enriched by folklore and magical myths. Along the coast you’ll find rocky coves, sandy bays, tall cliffs, small islands and mudflats whilst inland the countryside offers historic castles, ancient forests and clear rushing rivers. The City of Cork was founded in the 17th century and has flourished as an important sea port. More...

| Holiday Hunting Hints |
 |
Thank you to everyone that entered last month’s competition. The internet has revolutionized the way we look for holidays and there were many hints on how, when and where to search for the best bargains but the winner is Mr Thompson from Cheshire who advises:
"If you go to the USA on holiday try doing a "multi-city" trip. Fly to one destination, hire a car with carhire3000 and then fly back from another city. You will be surprised how inexpensive it is to get a multi-city flight compared to a single city flight - it won't cost much more and sometimes the same or less!" [Editor's note: Flying into one airport and out of another (called a "multi-city trip" on most airline websites) is an excellent way to explore a large country and this option is available across Europe, Canada and USA with a variety of different airlines. However, it is worth checking if any additional fees are incurred by picking-up and dropping-off a hire car at different locations. It is not usually a problem if you remain within the same country but there may be insurance issues if you decide to cross borders.]

| Close encounters of the celebrity kind |

There are a few destinations which are known to attract the rich and famous such as the Cote D'Azur, Val D'Isere and Tuscany. But did you know that the Lake District and Wales are also proving popular with celebrities looking to get away from it all?
In fact, many celebrities are looking for the same things as we are from a holiday - good weather and an opportunity to relax. And many European destinations which attract film stars and rock gods are within easy reach. For details of where celebrities such as Madonna, Tom Cruise, Sting and Penelope Cruz like to hang out, please click here.
Over the years, I've shared a flight with a few celebrities myself - Jordan and Peter Andre, James Nesbitt, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cynthia Nixon. Tell us who you've seen on your plane or hotel and the first name out of the hat will WIN a mixed case of wine.

This month's top tip comes from Mr Single from the Midlands who says:
"Choose an automatic geared car if it is your first time driving on the opposite side of the road. There is less to think about when concentrating hard on the driving"
[Editor's note: Whilst automatic cars are commonplace in the USA and Canada, they are harder to come by in Europe which is why we recommend that you book your choice of automatic well in advance of your trip.] Share your Top Tip with us by clicking here |

If you are travelling to the USA, next month, don’t forget that they will be celebrating Thanksgiving on the 23rd November. Most folks travel back home for the holiday period so both plane seats and car hire are in big demand – if you haven't already done so, book now to ensure you get the vehicle you want. It's also worth remembering that, unlike Christmas Day, everything tends to shut on Thanksgiving (some businesses also remain shut on Friday to make it a long weekend) so be prepared!
And, if you are thinking of a romantic get-away this winter, why not add the finishing touch by hiring a luxury car and give the right impression with a luxury Mercedes or Porsche? I have been inundated with enquiries about our prestige cars so I have pulled together some information about the types of vehicle available and pick-up points. For further details, please click here.
Kind regards and happy motoring!
