The Teesside Airport, now called Durham Tees Valley Airport, came into existence in 1941. It was a Royal Air Force bomber base in the Second World War. Today it is a growing and expanding airport seeing over one million passengers through its gates each year. The airport serves twenty seven destinations and the airlines using the airport include BMI Baby; BMI; Eastern Airways; KLM; and Ryanair.

The airport has high class amenities for all passengers, visitors, and staff members. Baby Changing facilities are available in most male and female toilets. There is a Play Area in the terminal. Children would also be delighted to visit the WH Smith store in the terminal building, selling a range of children's books, exciting comics, games and confectionary.

Disabled passengers can make use of the Ambulift for assistance with boarding and alighting from the aircraft. The Information Desk at the airport also has a hard of hearing induction loop fitted for passengers with hearing aids. Disabled toilet facilities may be found all around the airport. There is Disabled Parking available within one hundred meters of the terminal entrance.

There are also marvelous places to visit near the Durham Tees Valley Airport. The imposing Durham Cathedral, set on the hill overlooking the town, is known for its beauty. The Durham Castle is home to the original college of the Durham University. The Beamish Open-Air Museum is one of a kind.
