Sutton is the principal town in the London Borough of Sutton in outer southwest London. It is situated only seventeen kilometers away from Charing Cross, and is thus rather close to all of London’s principal attractions. In the London Plan, Sutton has been identified as one of the ten major metropolitan areas. It is located on a narrow bed of Thanet sands that extends from Croydon in the east to Epson in the west. To the south of this belt is chalk; to the north is clay.
Archaeological finds in the London Borough of Sutton date back over ten thousand years. Sutton was called Sudstone in a charter of Chertsey Abbey that is believed to have been drawn in the late seventh century.
The London Borough of Sutton contains eighty nine parks and open spaces, the major ones being the Beddington Park, Carshalton Park, Cheam Park, and The Oaks Park. It is also fairly simple to reach London’s parks from here. The Hyde Park is the West End’s back garden, and the Kensington Gardens blend into Hyde Park at its western end. The Kensington Palace and the Albert Memorial are within the boundaries of the Kensington Gardens. Other beautiful parks in London include the Green Park, St. James’ Park, Regents Park and the London Zoological Gardens, Kew Gardens (Royal Botanic Gardens), Richmond Park (the largest Royal Park in the area), and the Brockwell Park.
London has much more to offer, no doubt. Some of the city’s landmarks are the London Eye, the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the Tower Bridge, Wesminster Abbey and the Palace of Westminster including the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Southwark Cathedral, the Somerset House, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Maritime Greenwich, and the Royal Albert Hall. It’s safe to say that no one ever gets bored in London!
