Local InformationA hearty welcome to Norwich! This is a city in East Anglia, Eastern England. It is the county town of Norfolk, and has a rich and colorful history. Norwich is a popular destination especially for a city break. Some of its major attractions are the Norwich Cathedral, cobbled streets and museums, a Norman castle and the ultra modern The Forum. This building was opened in the year 2002 to house the Millennium Library. The Forum is also a venue for exhibitions, concerts and other events. Norwich is one of the United Kingdom’s top ten shopping destinations with a fabulous mix of high street names, individual shops, and of the largest outdoor markets in England – the Norwich Market. This is an ancient market place established by the Normans, although it has undergone redevelopment and modernization in recent times. The Riverside entertainment complex in Norwich is another remarkable attraction. The site includes various trendy nightclubs. The Castle Mall of Norwich is a wonderful place to shop. So is the Chapelfield shopping mall. This was the largest mall to open in Britain in the year 2005, and although many have criticized it as unnecessary, the mall was reported to be one of the top five retail destinations in the United Kingdom in 2006. The city centre of Norwich was also voted the best in the UK in the same year. The Sainsbury centre for Visual Arts is on the campus of the University of East Anglia on the outskirts of Norwich. Another site of interest is the two hundred and fifty year old Norwich Theatre Royal. Every year, the city hosts the Norfolk and Norwich Festival to celebrate the arts. You would also want to check out the Norwich Castle Museum. Norwich is, no doubt, a pretty happening place. There are lots of surprises awaiting you here! |
