Welcome to the Queen of Resorts! Llandudno is one of the finest traditional seaside resorts in the world, a place to feel inspired and escape from the ordinary. Here's where Snowdonia meets the sea. Queen Elisabeth of Romania, the writer Carmen Sylva, described the region as "a beautiful haven of peace." It became the town's official motto translated into Welsh as "hardd, hafan, hedd."
An unrivalled town in North Wales, Llandudno has two marvelous beaches: the award winning North Shore, and the calm West Shore attracting visitors with glorious views of Snowdonia and Anglesey. The town also offers ancient sites, historical splendors, and impressive family entertainment. Go skiing on the 300 meter dry Ski Slope created near the Happy Valley. Meet archaeologists at work underground at the Bronze Age Mine to get an insight into the lives of prehistoric peoples. Or visit the Old Rectory Tea Gardens, a caf famous for its colorful gardens and prize winning flower beds.
Children can meet Punch and Judy in summer on the wide promenade near the pier at the foot of the Great Orme. For over one hundred and twenty five years, donkey and pony rides have been popular as well on the sandy beaches on most sunny summer days. One of the most excellent recreational piers in Britain and the longest pier in Wales is the 2,295 feet long Llandudno Victorian Pier. A British Tourist Authority report in 1975 described it thus: "It zooms out of the sea .in a spectacular Indian Gothic style rather like a Maharajah's palace floating on a lake.Cast iron, brackets of iron lacework, an outstandingly pretty balustrade like an enlarged fish net, ogee roofs curling away to the sky, all add up to a totally pleasurable experience."
Llandudno remains proud of its carefully planned Victorian town centre, too, and it is assured you will be proud to have visited it. Remember to plan a trip that begins in May so you don't miss the annual spring carnival, popular with the old and the young - the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza and Festival of Transport. It will be your Victorian and Edwardian experience of a lifetime!
