Welcome to Hull! This is a city in the East Riding of Yorkshire, located near the east coast of Northern England, specifically on the north bank of the Humber estuary and on both sides of the River Hull. The city has proved to be of particular attraction to famous poets. The Australian author Peter Porter described it as the most poetic city in the United Kingdom, while Philip Larkin christened it as Coventry-by-the-Sea.

Hull was a major port during the Later Middle Ages; between the thirteenth and the sixteenth centuries, it was the second port of England, after London. It was also a rather sophisticated metropolitan international city at the time. Hull is, in fact, still a very busy port, and plays home to some major industries and well known British brands.

There are two large shopping centres in the so-called city of poets. The Prospect centre and Princes Quay Shopping centre are equally enchanting, although the latter is built on stilts in the former Princes Dock and may be more appealing for first time visitors. The Trinity Market is also worth checking out. First time visitors to Hull may additionally like to pay visits to the following tourist sites: the Wilberforce House, Hull and East Riding Museum, the Ferens Art Gallery, the Maritime Museum, Streetlife and Transport Museum, the Spurn Lightship, the Arctic Corsair and the Deep.

As you might have guessed, there is no dearth of attractions in Kingston upon Hull. The Hull New Theatre, opened in 1939, features ballet, musicals, opera, drama, children’s shows and pantomime; while the Hull Truck Theatre features exquisite plays, and has its doors wide open for you as well. Yes, Hull is a very warm city, and its very welcoming in the nigh as well! Popular nightclubs here include the Waterfront, Heaven and Hell, Pozition, the Welly, Spiders, and LA’s.
