Local InformationMalaga is set to celebrate the life and works of its most famous son in March, when the Museo Picasso kicks off a year-long parade of exhibitions and activities. The museum is to present 'The Picasso of Antibes' and 'Picasso: The Female Figure' to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the artist's birth. A series of lectures, workshops, courses and activities for families and children are also planned.
The Museo Picasso is also to receive 29 new loans of paintings such as the Standing Nude, Suzanna and the Elders, and Father and Child; sculptures including Woman on Pedestal (Reclining Swimmer) and Feminine Form and a series of rarely-seen drawings. These new add a more comprehensive narrative of Picasso's artistic development, from his first academic studies, through his neoclassical figures, to cubism and his re-workings of the Old Masters.
The Picasso of Antibes runs from March 13th to June 11th, showcasing 73 works never before seen in Spain. 'Picasso: The Female Figure,' running from October 2006 to February 2007 will illustrate the important role women played as an artistic subject for Picasso. Seventy rarely-shown paintings, drawings and sculptures will explore the powerful female presence that pervades his opus.
Entrance to the collection of the Museo Picasso Málaga costs €6. Tickets to the temporary exhibition are €4.50 and tickets for both are €8. Seniors over 65, children between the ages of 11 and 16, students and groups of more than 20 persons pay 50 per cent of the admission. Children ten years of age and younger are admitted free.
