Local InformationTenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and probably the busiest year round tourist destination. The only island to have two international airports Tenerife is almost neatly divided into two very different halves by the mountainous Pico De Teide, the highest mountain in Spain El Teide reaches 3,718 metres into the sky.
The south of the Island has developed in recent years into the more popular tourist destination with charter planes from all over Europe descending onto Reina Sofia Airport to fill the major resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.Playa de Las Americas in particular is a purpose built resort with little local feel but which attracts thousands of holiday makers back year after year.
In the north of the Island the resort of Puerto de la Cruz has a much more cosmopolitan feel and a picturesque 16th centaury centre, it manages to combine the encroaching tourism with losing the individual character of the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz is the administrative centre for Tenerife and the site of the 2nd international airport, whilst a busy city it currently attracts little tourism.
Things to do…..
Veronica’s – Either your number one attraction for going to Tenerife or the most important reason for avoiding Playa de Las Americas. This 200m strip manages to cram in over 20 different club and bars which keep going till 5 in the morning
Teide National Park- El Teide, with a height of 3,718 metres above sea level, is the highest mountain in Spain. It is a stratovolcano which rests on an ancient and gigantic cauldron-shaped depression made up of two semi-calderas separated by the Roques de García

A major international airport it handles millions of passengers per year and also offering connecting flights to the other islands.
Tenerife Norte Los Rodeos International Airport is only 9 kms from the capital Santa Cruz and has always tended to be a more business focus airport with flights from a number of Spanish cities.
