Fly-and-drive visitors to South Africa should not miss the chance to take in a bird's eye view of the country's financial capital. Built in the 1970s, the tower has undergone significant regeneration since it was bought by Transnet and is now arguably the most impressive structure in Johannesburg's business quarter. Visitors can amuse themselves in the cinema and shopping centre housed within the Carlton Centre, and are advised to allow plenty of time to take in the view.

Johannesburg is South Africa's money capital and the country's economic and cultural centre; it can be overwhelming to the first-time visitor, although many tourists enjoy the affluent northern region.
