The Bailiwick of Guernsey, which includes the island of Guernsey, is a British crown dependency in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. Victor Hugo, after leaving France for an exile, spent fifteen years here writing some of his most famous works. Today you may not only visit his home, the Hauteville House, with his distinctive style of decoration, but also follow a trail that leads to some of his favorite haunts and the locations mentioned in his works.

Some of the most popular sites for this hobby are the Le Petit Pre, consisting of a meadow, a pond, and a bird sanctuary; and the Lihou Island, which is an unspoiled, isolated bird sanctuary reached by tidal causeway and where you may also take a look at the remains of a 12th century priory. The Pleinmont Observation Tower of Guernsey is another historic site: a five-story naval observation tower used by the Germans from 1942-45. You may use the original rangefinders here!
