Local InformationThe Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordering with Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia. The country employs over 110,000 people in tourism that is proof enough to how much work is put in to make your vacation as wonderful as possible. The capital (and the largest city) is Prague, the nation's primary tourist attraction with one hundred towers and myriad cultural and historical treasures.
There are several labels attached to this praiseworthy city: 'one the most beautiful cities in the world;' 'the mother of cities;' and 'the golden city.' The most precious parts of Prague are the four residential quarters dating back to the Middle Ages and considered to be national heritage monuments listed as members of UNESCO: the Old Town (Stare Mesto),the New Town (Nove Mesto),the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) and the Castle area (Hradycany). The architectural styles represented in the city range from Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque and Rococo. Buildings from the Art Nouveau and Cubist period, too, make for delightful sightseeing.
The spa towns of Czech Republic have been drawing a huge number of tourists lately; two such towns are Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne. Those that love the regal and the historic are sure to pay a visit to Karlstejn, Konopiste or Cesky Krumlov for their castles and chateaux. Away from the towns are places for outdoor pursuits, among which the noteworthy areas include Cesky Raj, Sumava and the Krkonose mountains. While in Prague, folks that appreciate life al fresco more than the rest, will be enchanted by the manmade island called Kampa. Many Czech artists have lived here and you will discover for yourself what makes it so special to the artistic eye.
Yet another Prague gem is the Loreta - a pilgrimage site. Pilgrims and non-pilgrims in Prague also fall in love with the Old Town Astrological Clock built in 1364. The clock fascinates its passer-bys at every hour with an exhibition of the twelve Apostles, who make an appearance one by one in two windows above the astronomical part of the clock. All in all, the Czech Republic's historic beauty and nonchalance is sure to make your holiday a more than worthwhile experience.
