Local Information

Cyprus has a rich ancient culture which is reflected in the diversity of the island today. One of the most southern of the Mediterranean islands it enjoys a great year round climate with very hot summers and mild winters. Long a popular family holiday destination in recent year the resort of Ayia Napa has developed a party reputation which has attracted the younger end of the market from across Europe.

Cyrus still remains an island split in two, the southern Greek part of the island and the Turkish northern area annexed in the invasion of 1974. Whilst it is hoped that recent political initiatives will help to heal this rift at the moment the border remains a difficult barrier to cross. Whilst once the north of the Island was the richer more appealing area for tourists now the majority of tourism is based around the resorts of Larnaca, Paphos, Limmasol and Ayia Napa in the south of Island.

Northern Cyprus is trying to start re-developing its tourist industry but years of neglect of its infrastructure have left it a long way to go to catch up with its more prosperous southern neighbour. However recent years have seen a strong growth in the ownership of property in Northern Cyprus from in the particualr the english market.

Things to do....

Troodos Massif - The Troodus mountain towers over the centre of the island and in summer can offer a welcome retreat from the heat of the coast for a days hiking.

Ayia Napa - Of the top clubbing destinations in Europe Ayia Napa has rapidly become one of the best places to hears Europe top DJ's through out the summer.

Sunbathe - Cyprus has probably the best year round climate in the Mediterranean with blisteringly hot summers and mild winter.

How to get there...

Located on the coast and only 4 miles from the city centre Larnaca airport is the main tourist gateway into southern Cyrpus. With charter planes arriving from across Europe and a range of scheduled airlines it can be an extremely busy airport through out the summer months.

Cyprus's 2nd airport can be found 8 miles to the east of Paphos and mainly offers a gateway to the eastern side of the island to a number a charter airlines from Germany and the UK.
