Visitors to Vienna should also try to see Schonbrunn Palace and St Stephen's Cathedral. Schonbrunn Palace was built to rival Versailles, and is one of the most significant cultural monuments in Austria. The entire complex has now been added to UNESCO's world cultural heritage list.

For those looking for a short city break, then Vienna is definitely worth considering. Perhaps younger travellers hoping to indulge a riotous clubbing scene may be disappointed, but for those looking for a more relaxed and perhaps romantic atmosphere, Vienna's social, historical and cultural pedigree more than compensates.
