Klagenfurt is the capital of Carinthia in Austria on the Glan River.It was first settled in the twelve century after, as local legend has it, a group of men killed a kind of dragon called a lindwurm that inhabited the area.One of the big sites in the city is a statue of the lindwurm at the centre of Neuer Platz.This is the Major Square and city hall.

There are mountains to the north and south of the city, making it a very popular vacation spot.Part of this is because on the outskirts of town are many parks and 23 castles.In the summer there is a festival called Altstadtzauber, or The Magic of the Old City, as well as an Ironman contest and German literature prize, Ingeborg Bachmann Preis.One notable site is Klagenfurt cathedral, which is done in baroque style.

Klagenfurt Airport has several amenities for those arriving and departing the facility.An ATM is located at the entrance, Lost & Found and Tourist Information on hand, as well as Seminar Rooms for conferences.If you are hungry you can get something to eat or drink from 6 am through 11:30 pm.For those utilizing the Seminar rooms, these have pinboards, flipcharts, a video recorder, slide projector, TV with video, PowerPoint projector, and OHP projector, available on request.The airport is even equipped for those with disabilities.Parking for disabled is right outside the airport, washrooms and telephones are located in accessible areas and there is a lift to the Airport Restaurant Balloon in the red tower by the terminal building.And a bus will transport disabled passengers to and from the planes.

There are several hotels in Klagenfurt to stay in this quiet town. Price start from 67 Euro, many even allow pets or have a television.Although with all the history of the city, you may not spend much time in your room so the television probably isn t very important!
