Local InformationA 32 km long island in the Caribbean Sea, Aruba forms a part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands. The weather is warm and sunny; the landscape: cactus-strewn. Aruba offers tourists those natural, historical and cultural attractions that they won't find elsewhere!
The memorable Carnival of Aruba is usually held from the beginning of January to the end of February. Some year-round places to see are the Alto Vista Chapel; the Arikok National Park; Bushiribana & Balashi (historical gold mines); the California Lighthouse; the Frenchman's Pass; Hooiberg; the Palm and Eagle Beaches; the Baby Beach; Aruba Aloe Factory; and the Butterfly Farm. Although the famous 100 foot long Natural Bridge has now collapsed, Aruba's Natural Pool is a heavenly site for swimmers and those in need of total relaxation. Surrounded by rocks, this hidden pool of ocean seawater is also a perfect place to dive into from the rock cliffs.
Whereas Aruba is a flat sandy island there are enigmatic mountains and monolithic boulders dotting the countryside. These rather puzzling geological formations contain quartzdiorite stone and provide adventurers with an unexplained mystery. The Ayo Rock Formations are in fact the setting for the infamous town of Bedrock in The Flinstones. Once the dwelling place of an ancient race that left petroglyph markings on stone boulders, the area is surrounded by huge stones that seem to have been stacked on top of each other by giants!
If you want more on rocks - the Lourdes Grotto is an inimitable Roman Catholic shrine that has been built into the rocks.
Tourists also love the offshore islands of Aruba. While the Renaissance Island is a private hideaway only for guests of the Renaissance Hotel and the Renaissance Suites; the De Palm Island is for everyone who enjoys snorkeling, snuba and scuba diving. Marvelous coral formations, the colorful blue Parrot Fish, hammocks, food and beverage facilities, fun games and a playground, are some of the things that lure tourists to De Palm.
Aruba also offers you the chance to take a cruise on a sunset party boat with a disco on board. When it comes to uniqueness there's no place on earth to beat Aruba's style of entertaining guests!
