You need to show your driver's license from your home country if you want to rent a car. If you are stopped by any police officers for any reason, you need to present your licenc too. International driving license is not necessary, but is always a plus. If you opt to get one, you can apply for it at any automobile clubs.
Driving in Turkey is done at the right side of the road. Vehicles coming form the right have the right of way. Keep your speed at only 90 km/h. If you are driving on highways, speed limit is at 50 km/h.

Petrol stations can be scarce in Turkey outside of the tourist areas. Most petrol stations are only open from 6 in the morning until 10 in the evening. Petrol Stations on Motorways may be open all night.
Turkey has one of the most modern public transport systems in the world. Driving in Istanbul and Ankara is an absolute pleasure. They have broad roads that are in top condition. Be patient with big trucks that may slow down traffic. If you are driving in rural roads, watch out for stray animals and occasional farm carts too.
