Car Hire in Malaysia

Before you book your car hire in Malaysia, why not read through our Malaysia driving guide...

Malaysia is a wonderful island at the very heart of SoutheastAsia.  It enjoys a range of different heritages from different cultures, and is known as the melting pot of the Malayan, Chinese, and Indian race and religion.

When visiting Malaysia, one way to move around is by hiring a car and setting off to see the island. By organizing your car hire in Malaysia with Car hire 3000, you can really make the most of your trip. The island has big commercial and industrial grounds similar to Europe. There are some huge skyscrapers and wonderful architecture to be seen in the bigger cities.

If you intend to drive in Malaysia, make sure that you have either an International Driving Licence or your own national driver’s licence, which you should carry with you whenever driving.

Driving in Malaysia is done on the left hand side of the road. On motorways, the speed limit is at 110 km/h. If driving on municipal, state, and federal roads, the speed limit is slower at 90 km/h. Driving in cities or in urban areas, the speed limit is further reduced to 60 km/h. There are highway patrols that monitor speed limits, so always follow the set speed. Speed limits can also vary from road to road so always be aware of the signs.

For safety, seat belts should be used at all times. The driver and his front passenger should be buckled up, as you can fined if caught traveling without a seat belt.

There are existing laws against drink driving in Malaysia. These laws are strictly enforced at all times, and therefore should be followed. Stiff penalties are handed out for anyone caught over the legal alcohol limit.

Malaysian driving laws prohibit the use of mobile phones, as this could serve as a distraction when driving. Petrol can be easily purchased at the many petrol stations around the island.

Summary:

  • Seatbelts should always be worn
  • Children should sit in the back
  • Children under 4 should use a child seat
  • For safety reasons, you should never drink and drive
