Driving is done on the right side of the road. The speed limit of 90 km/h outside towns should always be followed. If you happen to be inside the city proper, you should only drive at 50 km/h. On highways, however, you are allowed to drive up to 100 km/h. These speed limits could also vary in every town so you should always be on the lookout for such signs.
Drinking and driving is definitely not encouraged. Traffic officers all around cities and towns have the authority to check drivers and subject suspected ones to a Breathalyzer test. If you have an alcohol content of anything higher than the legal limit in your bloodstream you are not allowed to drive on the road. If you are found guilty of this offence, there will be heavy penalties and high fines. You may also lose your driver's licence outright.
