Barbados is a beautiful island off the Caribbean. Everyone would agree that the Caribbean is one of the best vacation areas in the world. Beautiful beaches, exotic food, and nature is what that particular group of islands are proud of.
Barbados has a very good network of streets and roads that could take you to any spot on the island, so hiring a car is the best way to really get to see the island.
Driving is always done on the left side of the road. The speed limit is about 60 kph, unless there are road signs showing you otherwise. Traffic is almost non-existent, but you may see jams from time to time in high season.
If you decide to use Car Hire 3000 for your car hire in Barbados, a locally issued driving permit is needed. Tourists can obtain this from the car rental desk when you pick up the car, from the airport, from selected police stations, or through Barbados's Ministry of Transport. A registration fee of USD $5 dollars has to be paid. Also, you need to present your own driving licence for the local licence to be issued.
There is no government-mandated seat belt law in the island, but it is always advised to buckle up.
Roads in Barbados are fairly well maintained, although in more secluded areas, the road quality may not be as good as in the towms and cities.
Wherever you might go, careful driving should always be practiced. Driving at night should be avoided wherever possible due to poor street lighting in rural areas and the absence of hard shoulders.
