The Bahamas is a one-hundred thousand square mile archipelago. It is composed of several other smaller islands with Nassau as its capital city. It lies just right in the southeast coast of Florida.
When driving in the Bahamas, just remember the British driving laws. Those set of laws apply here as well. Basics like driving on the left side of the road and taking extra care is implemented. Visitors can use their respective local driver's licence on the islands for as long as three months. After that, they have the option to apply for an international driver's licence.
For passenger cars, the legal road speed limit is 30 miles an hour. Petrol can be quite expensive. There are ample fuel retailers around that can accommodate customers, especially tourists.
Bahamas tourists and vacationers are required to use cars with seat belts and never without one. Children 12 years and below have to be seated in the back seat, restrained with seat belts. That is required by law. As with other countries, drinking and driving is also not allowed. Heavy fines can be imposed for drink driving in the Bahamas.
The rest of the driving basics should be followed. Simple things like the proper use of horn as a warning sign has to be observed. Same thing as with the use of rear view mirrors. All drivers know the importance of that mirror, so always check it while driving.
Before taking out your car to drive, always make it a point to check the tyres, the windshield's visibility, and its overall performance.
Summary:
Always carry your licence with you when driving
Drive on the right
Children under 12 should be seated in the back
For safety reasons, you should never drink and drive
