You can book your car online before you leave the UK, and it will be ready for you when you arrive

You will need a UK driving licence in order to drive in Austria. Seat belts should be worn at all times. Drinking and driving is never allowed and can be very dangerous. If you are found to be over the legal alcohol limit, you will be fined and your licence can be suspended.

Always bring with you your driving licence, and any other documents provided by the car hire company. If you carry a licence without a photo, you should carry your passport for identification. If you are not using your own car, a letter from the registered user stating that you have permission to use the vehicle is required. All types of fuel are available in the country. Petrol in cans is allowed. Credit cards are acceptable at most petrol stations.

You should have a vignette or a motorway tax sticker if you want to use the expressways or motorways. These stickers are sold at most petrol stations or OAMTC offices. They are valid for about 14 months. UK registered vehicles with Euro plates does not require GB stickers anymore.

Speed limits on open roads are set at 100 kilometers per hour and 130 kilometers per hour on motorways. Towns have lower speed limits at only 50 kilometers per hour.

Children under 12 years of age and under 1.5 meters in height should always sit in the back seat. In case of emergencies, always carry with you a first aid kit.

A visibility vest should be worn whenever you are walking on the road, and on highways with low visibility.. Headlamp converters are required if you are driving a right hand drive vehicle. Warning triangles and visibility vests are also compulsory.

Summary:

Drive on the right
You will need a motorway sticker in order to drive on the motorway
For safety reasons, you should never drink and drive
