If you have a valid drivers license from you home country you will do just fine. If your licence is non-English, then you need it translated andan international licence would be required.

Speed limit in Australia is set at 35 mph (60 kilometers per hour) in residential areas but can go down to 50 kilometers per hour on some Brisbaneand Sydney areas. Highways, freeways and country roads usually have speedlimits aof 62 mph (100 kilometers per hour). The speed limit in New South Wales is at 50kilometers per hour and can vary in other places in the country. Each city may have varying speed limit, so it’s always worth checking out local regulations when you arrive.

There are strict laws about drinking and driving on the road. Alcohol level should be lower than 0.05. For safety, seat belts should be wornboth by passengers and drivers.

Always drive at the left-hand side of the road. On a freeway or a highway, you should stay on the left lane unless you are overtaking.

A No Standing sign means you cannot stop on that area unless to drop off or pick up a passenger. No Stopping signs may only bypassed in case ofemergencies. There are bus zones and loading/ unloading signs indicated along the road and not following these can lead to a traffic violation and you can incur fines.

If you are about to drive through an intersection, always keep right unless you see a stop sign. On a T intersection, motorists who are driving on astraight lane have the right of way. Beeping your horn is only allowable when asituation calls for it. It is usually used to warn other drivers of a potentialaccidents on the road.
