The Toronto CN Tower is world’s tallest building and one of Canada’s most recognised landmarks offering breathtaking views to those visitors brave enough to make it to the “Sky Pod” observation deck at the very top. Below you will find the outdoor observation deck (at 342 metres), Horizons Café and the indoor observation deck (at 346 metres) and the award winning “360” restaurant (at 351 metres) where the floor rotates every 72 minutes for a complete view of the city below. Tickets for the tower can be bought in advance online or from the tower’s box office  Founded in 1900, the Art Gallery of Ontario is the 10th largest museum in Northern America with an impressive collection of works from 100AD to the present day. Highlights include the largest collection of Inuit art in the world, major contributions from eminent Canadian artists such as Paterson Ewen and Betty Goodwin, a large number of Henry Moore sculptures as well as European masterpieces from the likes of Van Dyck, Rodin, Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Picasso. There is also a renowned collection of contemporary art, including major works by Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg and Mary Kelly. The gallery is currently undergoing an ambitious transformation, designed by Frank Gehry, and although construction is ongoing until 2008, visitors will be happy to know that a portion of the gallery’s collection still remains on view, with a number of new exhibitions and events planned this summer. The Royal Ontario Museum has recently re-opened, following an extensive refurbishment to create a striking, new landmark building. Canada’s largest museum of world cultures and natural history invites visitors to “explore the world” with over 6 million objects to discover. This extensive museum has something to offer all ages and those travelling with children will particularly enjoy the family events and hands-on galleries. Located in the Yorkville District, the newly renovated Gardiner Museum is the only museum in Canada entirely devoted to ceramics with fine examples of Chinese porcelain, Italian renaissance dishes and contemporary works such as Picasso’s large Vase with Veiled Women. The collection of more than 2900 pieces, is often described as a “jewel box of ceramic treasures.” Toronto Zoo is one of the world’s largest zoos in the world. Spread over 710 acres, this popular family attraction is home to over 500 animals, an interactive children’s wildlife experience and a two acre water play area. |
